Pole Dancing – Think you really know it? Think again

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the Phases Dance & Fitness Studio Opening Party. Having relocated from the High Street to part of the old Escape Nightclub, it’s a much bigger studio for the co owners Zoe and Kristina and allows them to cater for a broad range of exercise and fitness that they offer.

The idea behind Phases is that they want to make keeping fit both fun and enjoyable and what better way to do it than to learn trapeze, hoop, splits, Pilates and Pole. These are taught in a safe bright cool environment by top pole dancers who have represented Great Britain at the Pole competitions. You are taught by individuals who will help you relax and enjoy yourself especially if you may suffer low confidence about your appearance. It’s the ultimate confidence booster as you learn all sorts of moves and holds and allow you to build up strength.

Pole dancing is doing well to shed its reputation as something sleazy in clubs and whilst you may still come across those,  you will find at Phases it is fun decent and respectful elements that are long way from what we have seen in Pole Dancing in the media. Having witnessed displays in action, it requires the utmost strength and control. It is good for young and not so young individuals who want to take a different way of maintaining fitness and body strength.

Pole is not just for the ladies either. You will find that men are welcome and it is an alternative way to keeping fit and building strength. Ian Matthews, Sam King and Daniel Rosen are just a small number of men who have done well in the men’s side of Pole dancing.

Phases hold a Showcase at the Winter Gardens for students to share their progress and moves with friends and family. This includes Aerial, Burlesque and other stuff along side the Pole dancing. As well as the Showcase, there is the Kent Pole Championships. This allows pole dancers from across the county to come together and compete. It also brings the Pole family together over one day.

If you would like to find out more, check out their website Phases Studio or look them up on facebook Phases Dance & Fitness Studio you wont be regret it and you’ll be in with a great bunch of people if you choose to sign up.
